Steering/Gear Shift Problems

Steering/Gear Shift Problems
It is my first time posting so I hope I am doing this right.
I have a 2003 that I bought about a year ago. Recently I noticed a kind of whining/rubbing sound when I turn the wheel. At first I only heard it in reverse but now I hear it in drive too. Also, I have a center console gearshift and sometimes I can’t press the button in to put the truck in gear. If I turn the wheel a few times, it works. I don’t know if that is related in some way or just a coincidence.
It was involved in a head on accident about six months ago. It wasn’t a serious accident but the Blazer kind of ran up the hood of the other car (that car was totaled… not the Blazer!) My bumper was pushed against the tires and an oil line was cracked. I mention this because if the problems I am having now could somehow be related to that, I will bring it back to the repair shop that fixed it.
Any ideas?
