Default steering play

i have a 97 blazer, and ever since i got it a year ago it has had a little play in the steering wheel. i took it in and the shop said it was the driver side tie rod and idler arm so i had it replaced and it didnt help at all. when i turn the wheel back and fourth through the play which is about 1/8th turn on each side the shaft going down towards the axle turns but not the tires. so my guess is its play in the gear box but not sure. please help, thanks

doesn't a worn rag joint cause the truck to wonder? because my truck doesn't wonder at all just sloppy steering. or does it cause both? thank you for the help.

A worn rag joint may not necessarily cause a truck to wander. It will exaggerate corrections since there is slop before the steering gear box, but if the rest of the steering linkages and the gear box are tight, it shouldn't wander.
