Steering wheel spacer??
Can it be done? Has anyone done this? I have an 02' ZR2 that has my knee hitting the bottom of wheel when I go to brake. I'm 6‘4", and have to keep my leg swung over to the right, which puts more strain on my leg. I did phone a recommended restoration shop about an hour away and they didn't know if they could, but still said it would probably be $1,300. Three words... L, O and L. I asked what their guess would be for the lowest, and the guy said $800. Which doesn't sound wonderful, either. Does anyone have any insight on doing this?
To space out the stock steering wheel, you are going to have to have something custom made which will cost $$$ as you have found out. They will not only have to fab the spacer, but they will also have to extend all of the wiring. I wouldn't touch it with a 10-ft pole due to the liability.
If you didn't care about the airbag, you could buy an aftermarket steering wheel kit and get the appropriate spacer for the kit you choose. Be aware that your insurance provider may have a problem with the removal of the airbag though.
