Default stripped distrib cap threads

ok, changed the cap and rotor on my 2000 blazer 4.3 4wd the other day. everything went smooth until I went a quarter turn too much on the front cap screw.. the back is tight and i tightened both down a little at a time so they were tightened evenly. is the front hole being stripped going to cause me problems down the road? it will still back out. tried teflon tape on it but still won't tighten. should i try next size screw? would hate to have to pull the distib....she starts and runs fine ... thanks

OEM are plastic crap dist. I got one from Rockauto.com for around $50 its metal and works great.
Try a little gasket goop to help hold it on till you can get a replacement

Replace the dizzy.

The preferred dizzy on this forum seems to be the Skip White unit. Skip White Performance Detail Description

Other metal framed dizzies are available on RockAuto.com and on Amazon in the $40-$50 price range. All are Chinese origin (even the Skip White Performance unit), but even Chinese "metal" is far superior to the plastic crap GM put on the engine at the factory.

You will have to set the CMP Retard angle when you install a new dizzy. For that you'll need a good scan tool or a good app/bluetothh OBD-II dongle combination.

You can also pick one of these up locally https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-90449-.../dp/B00BQAJNWO I used one for a while until I removed my distributor.

CMP Retard angle is the relative position of the cam position sensor in the dizzy to the crank position sensor on the front of the crankshaft. It must be zero degrees +/- 2.0 degrees. It's set using a scan tool and the adjustment is the same basic adjustment you use to set timing on an older small block Chevy engine, by turning the dizzy.

The Vortec dizzies have a "wrench" style clamp which doesn't allow much movement. If the angle is off, you either have to get an old style dizzy clamp (Mr. Gasket 1009 or similar) which allows full movement, or you have to enlarge the bolt hole in the clamp with a file, Dremel tool or die grinder so you can move the thing into spec.

That Dorman fix rexmburns mentioned looks like a good temporary fix.
