Try putting transmission in neutral, foot on brake, engine running - choose another range.

i had mine lock in 4hi, i put it in reverse and drive and tried to "rock" it out after i pushed 2hi. you could try this for 4lo to see if you can get back to 2hi

this is what will work. (possibly) i know on my 96 to shift it from 4 low i need to have it in neutral and the parking brake needs to be applied.

I have tried everything everyone said and still nothing, the fellow that did this to my truck said he got in and started it and just pressed all the buttons......4hi,4lo and 2h..a bunch o times

I just went out and tried the rocking, it didnt work, and now if I press 4 hi or 2 hi there is no clicking or nothing,

is there a fuse that controls any of this stuff, I noticed I dont have any wipers either

I asked him if he was going to help fix it and he said no
anyway, the mechanic he knows said he thinks its the encoder motor.....apparently they are really expensive so I am not to happy tonight

If you have lights on the dash, then the 4WD fuse should be good (it's called '4WD' in the IP fuse block).

Try disconnecting the battery and see if it will allow you to shift back into 2HI after you reconnect it.
