suggestions on u-joint
1998 jimmy 2 door rear ujoint gone bad after almost 210000,any joint from auto zone or ?,,,your thoughts?
|
I got a greaseable u-joint from Napa a few years back but can't recall the brand name of it. It is nice to be able to grease the u-joint every time I lube the front end, which is every oil change. Autozone probably carries one.

probably getting moog from advance,,,wondering if original joint held the same as replacement...thinking i saw some sort of plastic clips??
|
Spicer supplied the original equipment. Still available.
The shop that balanced my driveshaft in 2025 replaced the U-joints with Spicer's.. |
looked in the service manual, some had nylon injection in stead of clips, showing

For me it is interesting to learn that there is a special tool to remove factory U-joints. I don't have the tool, so I heated the joint with a propane torch until the goop ran out of the hole.
On one occasion I used a Spicer U-joint, and another time I used an AC Delco Professional u-joint. Both u-joints have grease nipples. |
and i really dont understand how that tool worked....does it matter...no

The cross-drilling necessary to get grease to all four bearings from the single zerk weakens the U-joint.
Not a good idea for a truck or off-road capable vehicle like the Blazer. |
