Default Thermostat question

Just bought a '97 Blazer.

Issue: Temp stays at the first quarter of gauge then goes all the way to 'over-heating' marks on the right. If I turn on the heater full blast it will drop it back down to normal. I have to leave the heater on all the time- it will still peak out and then drop, otherwise....

Already had the system flushed twice. That worked for awhile and then started back up.

So- new themrostat?

Want ot head out to Mtns but.....

Thanks!!

I would suspect a wonky thermostat.
