I had a similar sound, quite a few years ago. I put up with it for several months until it got really annoying. By that time, it was real obvious...the " "engine to transmission" bolts had come loose, so their was a "gap" between them! This allowed flex, which in turn, cracked the flex plate, right up next to the crankshaft bolts.

Yes, drop the trans & replace flexplate. But if that has been checked & is good, there are a few other things you might check.
As DySfUnCtIoNaL said, noised can be hard to track. It could be an exhaust leak. They do get louder when under load.
Another thing (that also happened to me)...loud ticking noise, that kept getting louder. finally, I hear this loud "BANG"... I had a loose spark plug, ( I'm supposed to torque those?) that eventually got loose enough, that it blew out of the hole, & hit the inner fender. It was still hanging from the plug wire.

Good luck

Well see the reason why I'm asking all these questions is because I'm also paying off this stupid thing its 500 to do the work and I'm thinking of getting rid of it I don't have 500 I could use that for a couple payments, that's why I having done anything yet Idk what to do from here

I feel your pain. That's a tough decision to make. Even if you decide to get rid of it, it will be worth more (at time of sale) if their aren't any strange noises. I hope, for your sake, it's something simple & easy (inexpensive).....wait...you said...."its 500 to do the work"...did your mechanic "find the problem?" What did they say is wrong?

It might be good to get a "second opinion"...from a different shop.

well he said he found where its coming from but not exactly what the problem is thats making all the racket. the only way he can tell if the flex plate is broke is if i allowed him to drop the trans and see, but at second thought, what if the plate is fine, no damages, cracks, dents, or even broke thats like throwing my money away and i had my trans dropped for nothing.

I tend to agree with you...Unless the "trans-to engine" bolts have backed out, allowing flex, between the engine & tranny, I don't see how it could crack. As I remember, the "ticking" (from a cracked flex plate)has more of a "metallic" sound to it.
Have you had any major exhaust work done? Like, a header? Instead of taking it to another mechanic, have you thought about a muffler/exhaust shop? A quick inspection could, at least, remove that as a possible cause.

I would try pulling the starter first to see if the gear is throwing out and retracting properly. Its and easier check and a cheaper fix. Good Luck.

Well, I figured out the problem, like RIFLEMAN 308 said, it was the gear inside of the starter. The spring inside failed by holding the gear back and that was constantly hitting the flexplate. Sorry been so long Ive been on here, I forgot about this whole site then when I remembered Posting my problem, I forgot my user & pass at the same time. But I wanted to say thank you to everyones advice. Not only that but saved me $500 bucks. Its amazing what a car part can do when it fails lol.
