timing cover replacement
Hey guys, I have an 02' blazer w/ a 4.3. Timing cover was leaking so bought a new one. New one didn't come with the thick rubber gasket at the bottom of the cover. should I try to make the old one work or just lay a really thick layer of rtvon it? Replacing the timing cover, front main seal, and water pump now since it's all apart. Thanks in advance. Vern

RE: timing cover replacement
umm where did you get the cover from??? tho I use RTV I never trust it 100% especially around oil... I've seen way too many leaks from people who use rtv.. but again i DO use it... give a quick call to your local gm dealer and see if the cover is supposed to come with the gasket or what they use.... if its supposed to have one make sure your supplier gave you the right one... if all else fails... rtv the crap outta it...lol( within reason..) and making sure not to get any slop inside of the cover to gum up anything...

RE: timing cover replacement
I would reuse the old one with a thin layer of RTV (less is more) to seal it up.
I really hate pulling apart a component to find uncured RTV because some previous mechanic (or wanna-be) decided to throw a whole tube of RTV at a problem.
