Default Timing Question 95 Blazer

I'm installing a new distributor and after setting the timing at TDC via the "v mark" on the crankshaft I noticed that the old distributor arm is pointing about 10 degrees after #1 (the base of the dist. is rusted so I can't see any marks if there is one).

Is there a way of knowing I'm really at TDC without removing the spark plug? I have the older style distributor with verticle tower and I can't find much info - almost all the write-ups are for the horizontal tower.

I read some blazers have two marks for this but I can only find one mark on the crankshaft.

Any info would be appreciated.

TIA

Default Timing light

Get a timing light. Mark the balancer with some white out and watch the line as you let the light do its thing. Adjust accordingly. With the 95 you must unplug the little wire behind the distributor while setting the timing. You will not be able to set a new time if you don't do this. This resets the computer for the new time you set up.
