Default tranny issues :/

It hasn't been going on for too long, but now it's getting worse. When I shift from P to R, it shifts fine. P to D is where the problem is. When I first start it in the morning and shift to D, it takes myabe 5-10 seconds for it to engage. Sometimes it does it right away like normal. I drive my brother to work int he morning about 20 minutes away from home, and when I leave there, I shift from P to D and it takes 30 or more seconds to engage, usually I just shift down to 1 and it engages right away and drive to the end of the driveway, stop and shift to D and go. I've tried 3rd and there's a little hesitation there too, not too bad though. Havent tried 2nd yet. And ideas, It's been a while since I've had the ATF and filter changed, gunna start there and see if that helps. If it still does it, gunna have it checked out and hope that maybe it's a solenoid cause one of my parents cars ahd the same issue a while back and it was a solenoid and after that it shifted perfect. I have a 10 hour drive in 5 weeks and don't want to get stuck anywhere in the middle of PA lol.

I'm having the same issue and have been reading mentions of "solenoids" that might cause this. If someone could elaborate on what those are, where they're located, and what the DIY installation is like, it would be greatly appreciated!

Bump hoping for experienced feedback on solenoid info too. A lot of us "hope" that a solenoid will make the bad noises go away (or even better... that we can drive away).

'This pump does x' info would be nice info to have added to the transmission diagnosis sticky in the DIY forum.

Just found this link elsewhere. http://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/gm_...id_tests_1.php Lots of info on troubleshooting the solenoids directly.
