I got it fixed today. I didn't cut the seal. I didn't even use it. I bought the seal from a local Chevrolet dealer but when we tried to install it none of the holes in the seal would line up with the bolt holes on the transfer case or the transmission adapter. Since it was Sunday night and it was cold we went with plan B and slathered the transmission adapter with RTV and put it back together. It doesn't look like it's leaking now but I won't know for sure until I get the suspension reassembled and drive it some.

Thanks again, Cap'n, for all of your guidance. I really appreciate all the time you take to share your knowledge.

Believe me, I'll be keeping an eye on this thing. Once I'm done with the suspension work up front I'm declaring an end to major repairs and I'm going to actually *DRIVE* it. I'm especially interested in watching that transfer case to see if any more fluid should leak out.

This thing makes me wish I didn't have to work all the time to earn money. That's the only thing keeping me from just working on my vehicles every single day.

I wouldnt worry because the entire tcase has rtv in the center sealing the halves.

U can aleays go with plan C and wrap baby diapers Around the adapter.

Not a bad idea but I'm too cheap to spend money on diapers for the transfer case. I would just let it leak and then call it performance art.

Hopefully this will be the last update on this job: I was under the truck all day today and it is not leaking. Nothing. Not even Julian Assange could get ATF out of that thing now.
