Default transmission fluid

my 96 blazer ls check engine light came on last nite car has been running hot lately and the trans was was tottaly dry i stoped at a gas station and they only had too left of difrent types one was thicker red the other was a clearer less thick type how many quarts and should i put in? a specific kind or brand?
also will mixing too different types hurt? will go and see the problem code now

Depends how much is needs i say add till it reads correctly on the stick

also wait 10 mins for the fluid to go into the pan before checking if you dont wait you can get a false reading

If its a automatic use regular atf

ok thanks i let the it run for 25 min put it neutral and levels look good the check engine code was a p0442 evaporation system leak not sure what too do about this one
