Transmission Problems?
Hey guys,
So, I've got the Blazer running, and yesterday, I took it on it's first "long" ride, about an hour in each direction. On the trip back, it kicked very noticibly coming out of 1st gear. I haven't changed the fluids, but according to the Previous Owner, I'm right at due for an oil change. Anyway, it's a 99 Blazer, 2Dr, with the 4.3 Vortec.
Is this a precursor to a much larger transmission problem, or are their other things that could cause this kick?
It does kick a very little out of 2nd and even less out of third, but first is very very noticible.
Thanks for the help!

It really depends. Does the truck have a shift kit installed or any other modifications to the transmission? How is the trans fluid level/condition?
A harsh 1-2 shift can be caused by a number of things as evidenced by the threads found using the search term "harsh+shift". Specifically this thread:
Unknown cause of hard shift 1-2

Thanks for that link, lots of good info there. There's no aftermarket modifications on it, yet. I havent checked the tranny fluid/condition yet, I'm doing that today after work. I had been driving it around town all week, but just on really short trips. The problem didnt begin manifesting itself until the ride home last night.
So, just took the Blazer out for a ride on lunch. Shifted smooth as silk when cool, and never got warmed up enough to harsh shift, so I'm supposing that this is related to the TSB posted in the other thread.
Ours does that sometimes. Ours is more noticeable cold. But we run a B&M Supercooler also. which keeps the trans fluid much cooler than without. I'm a big believer in LubeGard for auto transmissions. I run it in my Big Ford that tows a 10,000 trailer. It really has reduced the fluid temps.
Soo, Oddness - I drove the blazer cold yesterday and got a harsh shift from 1->2 within the first 15 minutes. It was that it needed to really warm up first. Hrm. Gonna try a simple service first just changing the filter and fluid, and we'll see what happens after that.
