transmission won't shift, no speedo, odo
So, my blazer decided that it doesn't want to shift out of first gear. Neither the speedometer or odometer work. But when I plug my scan tool in, it displays the vehicle speed. Also, when I shift to 2, the transmission will shift to 2nd. OD, D, and obviously 1, all stay in first gear.
TPS is reading correctly, also.
Tried searching, couldn't find any help. Thanks for any ideas.
It's a 1995, 4L60E.

Well, you was thinking right. $98 and a new VSS later, it's shifting fine, speedo and odo both work!
In the other threads, people said they would have an ABS light as well. I didn't, but that's cause I removed the ABS pump and put black tape over the ABS bulb while the dash was apart a few years ago!
VSS was super easy to get to. Back, upper driver side of the transfer case. On mine it was the only sensor on the TC output, so it made it easy to figure out. I didn't have a 1" socket, but a crescent and a coupla smacks with a hammer had it right out.

I'll take your word for it. I thought I had seen the abs light mentioned along with vss problems. I don't know that much about abs systems. Heck, the Blazer is the only car I've had that's had abs, and it's been removed!

I'm pretty sure cleburne red is right on this one. The second generation Blazers (actually all second generation S/T series trucks with ABS) have a 3 channel ABS system. There are two front wheel speed sensors (integrated in the backing plates on 1996 and 1997 models, integrated in the hub/wheel bearing assemblies in the 1998 and later models) and the rear wheel speed is derived from the vehicle speed sensor, in the tail housing of the 2wd transmission, or in the back of the transfer case on the 4wd vehicles.
