Default Trouble with Spider unit or something else ?

Hi all long time lurker first time poster . I’ve actually got a 2004 Silverado with a 4.3 engine and there seems to be much for good info about that engine on this site lol I bought it “non-running” and previous owner said it needed a fuel pump and had been sitting awhile. Tow her home and put a battery in it and key on, fuel pump comes on . Crank over and she starts right up. I’m feeling good now until she starts cutting out, rough idle, rev up and she bogs down .

I checked fuel pressure first 60 psi with no leakdown. I start pulling plugs and they are filthy. Decide to put a cap and rotor on it as well. Cap and rotor were corroded and screw for cap stripped in distributor . Put her back together and runs better but same result. Barely will move under its own power and sounds better with accelator down about 1800 rpm.

After reading that the distributor gear is prone to failure. Pulled the distributor and lots of slop and gear is shiny and worn . Ordered a new aftermarket distributor on fleabay and installed. Not really much improvement . I went back and reset timing in case previous person had got it off and it was surprisingly in time . Back together. And won’t hardly run to won’t run at all. Pull plugs and carboned up. All of them. And some kinda wet. Cleaned them all up and did compression test. 140-150 on all cylinders. Reinstall plugs and she starts right up but idle rough and bogs down.

I decided to spray choke cleaner checking plenum for leaks and nothing . I broke down and pulled the plenum and she looks all washed out ☹️. I picked up a 2000 Blazer for parts and pulled its plenum. It was a known running vehicle and has the older style spider but looks carboned up under the plenum with no signs of leaking. I’m like ok so I’ll swap it over to mine. Not so fast! The 04 has the “newer” style spider and the 00 has the poppet style . What are my options here ?! Everything I’ve seen says the revised spider can’t be removed without damage . Any help welcomed this is turning into a bigger project than I anticipated!

Thanks,

Eric 2004 Silverado
