For the record, my Blazer is still running after several weeks so it appears the problem in my case was, in fact, fuel pump or filter. There was, as expected, some crud in the tank as well so it may have been occasional blockage. Regardless, I figure being clogged up repeatedly probably didn't do the pump any good so just as well it got replaced.
