Unique noise problem- help!
I understand what both of you are saying and am an "old man" myself that has been working on cars since only around 1971 (mostly mustangs that decade) but have gradually been limiting what I do over the years. I have no intention of turning this into a shooting contest and was just looking for some advice. I am well aware of the expertise of dealer mechanics and have actually had a good experience from the latest chevy dealer that I've been going to for warranty work so far. I think this thread has served its purpose.
Just to get off the topic of dealer vs independent shops........Regarding your first post, you said that you hear the clicking more with the window down. Have you tried putting the transfer case in 4wd to see if the noise changes or goes away?
I also take my vehicles to the dealer if I absolutely have to have someone else do the work. I pay for a quicker, more accurate diagnosis and repair......most of the time. I've been working on vehicles myself since about 1972.
Just my 2 cents.

I've tried that many times before but it has no effect. It appears to be temperature dependent and since it has been over 70 degrees the last several days the noise has gone away completely. This is the main reason for not bringing it in because I can’t always count on it clicking when I want it to.
