Update on my Ticking 1999 Build
Well the first build did not go so well. The diagnosis is I starved the bearings of oil. I'm pretty sure I had three major issues.
1. I installed the wrong gasket on the oil filter adapter at the block. The gasket covered up the bypass valve.
2. I installed a badly built oil line. Thanks Dorman! The first one I bought from Rockauto was bad. One of the lines was to long and it caused the hose to have a really bad kink. I sent it back but received one very similar that kinked also but I went with it. On this build I sent it back and got one that was made correctly and it did not kink.
3. I did not prime the engine with oil properly. This time I got the oil priming tool and made sure the engine was primed before it rotated even once.
Note: On the first build I had the plugs installed when I first rotated the engine. This time I left them out.
The engine sounds good now.
There are only three issues to deal with now.
On the first build I did add silicone to the lower corners of the timing cover and had no leak. On this build up, I did not use any silicone in the corners when installing the timing cover. It is leaking a good bit. It looks like it is leaking from both sides on the bottom of the timing cover.
Secondly, for some reason the shift cable went bad between builds. It will move to 1 but only returns to D. It does not return to park. I can feel the cable conduit is broken.
I've still got some work to do but the good thing is it is all made easier with the help and information I get here. Thanks members!
