Which way to loosen clutch fan?
Getting ready to change the water pump on my 97 Blazer. Just wondering which way the big nut on the clutch fan turns to come off. I'm guessing its counter clockwise to come off since thats the way the pulley spins. Just want to make sure. It's a 4.3 by the way. Thanks.

You are correct. You must hold the water pump from turning while turning the fan clutch assembly counter clockwise.

Thanks Kyle, I got it off. I borrowed a clutch fan tool from my friend, thank God, That thing was tight!!

any chance you've got the same fan/clutch set-up as a 2001 S-10....trying to replace mine with an e-fan....wondering how to take mine off

Should be the same setup if the S-10 has the 4.3L. I was able to get mine off when I replaced the power steering pump on my Bravada by using my large set of adjustable pliers and a pry bar. You have to find a spot where the pry bar can sit kinda on one of the points of the hex and against the waterpump pulley retaining nut to hold that steady while you loosen the fan. Once it's broken loose, it'll just spin off.
Or you may be able to rent the specialized tools from one of your local autoparts stores if they do that sorta thing...
