Yes, this could be the TCC operating, but it shouldn't do it on a level road at constant speed. When you press the accelerator harder you can put more load on and prevent the TCC from engaging. Or higher speed actually might keep it engaged better.

It used to not do that, but I had to leave it basically sit outside a winter, and I think that that probably is causing it to act up.

Sometimes brake calipers drag and make the vehicle harder to pull, giving less mileage too.

Well good luck! If you are interested in cars and learning to work on yours, the Torque Pro Android app and the BAFX OBD2 bluetooth adapter is invaluable as a diagnostic tool. Plus I'm sure it could help you learn to drive for mileage. You can even display the slip speed of the transmission torque converter and watch the TCC hook up with this. Pretty cool stuff.

Best wishes,

Les

With a 3:42 gear I average about 15 MPG combined City/Hwy and refuel at about 225 miles.04x4dr

I would love to do an engine swap with one of the new Ecotec3 4.3L V6 engines as it is supposed to get 22-24 mpg on the highway for the Silverado pickup trucks, so one could only imagine what it might get when put into the S10 Blazer/Jimmy. With an 18 gallon tank, range would be 396 - 432 miles!

If your worried of running out just get a 2 gal gas can and keep in truck. Also you could fill up reset trip and run it out of gas to see how far you can go.

Wouldn't running it out of gas damage the vehicle? I know that can be the case with the newer vehicles at least. However it isn't so much running out as just $$$. Better fuel efficiency is easier on the wallet.

I actually got 20 mpg one time on a tank and it was all highway. I was astounded.
