Default What kind of hose?

I have a 1999 S/10 Blazer 4.3 4x4. While checking for the cause of having to retrieve it from the roadside the other day due to loss of power and engine temp rising I found this part and a metal pipe where it looked as if it would be joined with a rubber hose. My wife, the driver at the time of the breakdown said smoke was coming from this area also. Being a bodyman and a wrench turner only to keep my vehicles out of the dealerships I have no idea what this part is and not wanting to drive it somewhere or load it back on the rollback to take it somewhere I hope someone here could give me an answer or two. What kind of hose goes between this part and metal pipe? It got quite hot so that was why I was wondering if there was a special hose or something. What is this part called and would it being defective cause the hose to burn off or pop off under a load? The local Auto Zone had no idea what was going on but said if I could bring it by they might figure it out. So once again what is it and what kind of hose to rejoin?

The part is on the left front side of the engine. I have a K&N air filter so this is eaiser to see due to the stock air box being replaced.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

part of air pump system - it adds fresh air to the exghaust - if i remember right it adds air so the cat can burn off excess unburnt emisons and the round part is a one way valve -

prob - but check the one way valve it should hold the exghaust gasses back - if it has failed you will need to replace it as it will let hot exghaust gas back and burn up new hose - my guess it failed
