Default What is that noise?!?!

I have had a noise on/in my engine for a week now. It's a odd metal on metal noise. It's up front by the tensioner. I hav changed that and didn't stop it. It really sounded like something was bouncing around in my exhaust. It's louder down under the engine. It's like something is rolling around in something or being hit by the fan. It does it loudly under load, but not real bad when I just rev the motor in park or neutral. I thought maybe something with the transmission but if I hold the brakes and rev to about 1500, not moving the vehicle it does it. So I think that narrows it down to the engine. It stared after I cleaned the intkake by pouring sea foam down the intake.

It's a 98 with a 4.3. About 155k miles. I just got it a month and a half ago.

Thanks for any help. -cody

Check the cats-thats my guess,I don't feel the seafoam brought on the problem(although I put ABSOLUTLY no stock in that product-junk in my opinion)
as I have seen the damage done by that stuff in diesel intake systems!

Oh I forgot to write that I have a buddy who does exhaust and he pulled out my first cat and found nothing. I guess I could pull the second.

Although it does make he noise when I'm not moving it sounds like a dry ujoint, bu on the front end.....

Found it. Its my starter gear, it slowing, by the wiggling the engine does, get moved to the flywheel and kicked back away, then again, and again. how the hell I found it I dont know. Just crawled under and traced the noise closer and closer then looked up though a hole and when I heard the noise I saw it get kicked away.

What a fluke and coincidence!!!!!!

I think I have the same thing. What did you do to resolve it?
