Default What is this part? - Coolant leak

It is positioned left & above the front diff. of my 95 4 X 4 Blazer and it is leaking coolant. It looks to my eye like the leak is actually coming from a small fracture near one of the attachment bolts. It has two lines running forward I believe running to & from the radiator. Here is a picture:

its probably dripping on it, thats the oil filter adapter plate. so those lines either run to your filter or the oil cooler built into the radiator

Is it likely that the leak is in the oil cooler / radiator and is following the lines back to the adaptor plate and showing up there? Is there anything above the adaptor that could leak coolant?

Check the lines where they attach to the radiator. They do come loose and coolant would just follow the line and then drip at the lowest point. To tighten just tap on the "star" nut against the radiator; use a flat blade screwdriver and your hand.

Thanks Lanny I'll give your idea a try. For the life of me I can't find any other wet spots.

Make sure your coolant is full and run the engine until it reaches operating temperature. Then check for leaks. It may only be leaking when the system is pressurized.

If the lower intake manifold gaskets leak, coolant will run down the rear of the block, right where the oil filter adapter is. Cooling system pressure test would show where the leak is coming from.

Thanks for that idea Hook! I spent all morning on my back looking up trying to spot wet lines moving towards the adaptor, the radiator, and just about any place that might be the source and could not find a thing. I never thought about the intake manifold gasket...I'll give that a look. Thanks!

Your 1995 most likely has CMFI, and the intakes do leak, but it's not nearly as common as with the CSFI system intakes.

I sent a fair amount of time trying to see if I could see or feel any signs of wetness and could not. This motor sure have a lot of "stuff" that makes visual top end inspections a real chore. Would it be likely that this leak will get worse, and if it does, would it be something that would leave me stranded? (I am keeping an eye on the expansion tank) While I don't like the idea of dripping coolant I am not ready to dump a lot of money into the replacing of an intake gasket that I can't get a full visual on. I am thinking that if it is leaking it must be coming off the back near the distributor, but I sure could not feel it.
