Angry What the Truck?

The other day I was driving to work and my Blazer was running fine for the first few miles. After that things got bad until I could not even push the gas pedal and if I did it would choke and die. My mechanic said that it is getting alot of exhaust in the intake and killing it, he also said he thinks it is the valves. It idles fine but doesn't like the gas pedal.
I cannot pay for a valve job and think it might be something else wrong. Pleeeaaasssse Help!!!!!!!!!!

A little info about your truck would be helpful...year? model?

I second that, we need to know what you are driving in order to help... It does sound like it could be a plugged cat or EGR problem, is the blazer throwing any codes, smell like it is running rich?

x2 on the plugged cat. Plus everything else that has already been stated/asked.

Had a very similar issue years ago.....EGR valve stuck open. Removed, cleaned and cleared the check engine code and all was good.

OK info, It is a 97' LS with the 4.3 liter engine and 4WD. My mechanic I took it too initially tested the exhaust flow and cleared that as a problem but I am not sure where he tested it.

crawl under the vehicle and tap on the cat and listen, if there is anything loose in there or a rattling noise it is plugged up and restricting exhaust flow

Now this is only what happened to me so take it or leave it....lol

When I purchased me Blazer a couple of weeks ago it would not go very fast with out bogging, and the guy I bought it from said it needed a new cat. It was a Friday night so I was going to wait till Monday. I fiddled with a few things and pulled the air cleaner apart, it had a K&N on it but it was the most dirty filter I have seen, There were pieces of plastc bag in there too. Yuck! I cleaned it all and put it back together with a new filter. I then drove it over to my friends house, and bam, it worked great, no sluggishness just ran great.

So you might want to check out the air cleaner as simple as that sounds. Sorry for the long story, but its all in the details. lol

If it can't breath, it can't run. The last Post has a lot of validity.

The EGR valves have a nasty habit of collecting a Carbon particle that holds it open. In fact they sell gaskets with a screen mesh because of this problem.
If the Cat is OK, I would look at the Air filter and pull the EGR and look for carbon deposits hloding it open.

P.S. if it came on that quick, it's not Bad Valves.

Thanks for your willingness to help a guy out. I checked the filter and it is OK. I will tap on the Cat to see if it does make that noise, if so, what is a good brand of cat for a decent price?
