wheels locked up, no 4wd, and metal sound
Ok I got a 96 GMC Jimmy 3 button 4wd. I had a transmission put in in the last year didn't realize it but the 4wd doesn't work now. I noticed a hose coming from above the transmission does any one know if that could be why 4wd doesn't work and what could that hose be and where would it go? I pushed the 4hi button the other day made a grinding sound drove it a couple more miles to my moms house went inside and when I came out to leave the wheels are locked up and it tries to move but the wheels won't turn. Any Ideas? Now for the metal sound when I was driving there was a metal like rattle sound got louder faster you drove father inlaw said it sounded like the speed sensor cable. He said that the rubber coating on the inside of the cable wears out and the cable rubs the outer coating causing it to make this sound. Any help there? I know these are alot of problems but I wanted to mention all incase one had to do with the other my main thing is to get it driveable then 4wd working then the metal sound. Any help or ideas are appreciated.
Thanks Joe

OK the hoes comming off the top of thransmission is most likley the vent tube for the transmission. if you hit 4wd and it started to grind then you have problem either with your transfer case or with the front axle, check your fluid quality and levels. put the trcuk into 2wd and jack it up onto 4 jackstands and see if you can free spin the tires and drive shafts if the front one is locked up then reomve the driveshaft and see if it frees up the front wheels, if all 4 are loced up then your pretty much out of luck for a quick fix.
OK we just got another 6" of snow so I haven't got it on jack stands so I don't if I can manually turn the wheels or not. I did start it back up and tried to move it put it in gear no lights were lit up on the 3 button (2hi 4hi 4low) but I did press the buttons lights came on for the 4hi and 4low but no sound in the transfer case (can't hear it engage or disengage) so that leads me to believe that it is not going in or coming out. The problem is it wasn't going into 4hi or 4low before(like the previous 7 months). When I put it into drive and reverse I could feel it go into gear I would give it gas and it tries to move but it feels like all 4 wheels are locked up. Assuming all 4 wheels are locked up where should I start?
I haven't verified but I have owned the truck for 4yrs and I had no problems till I had to get the new transmission. So I would assume that they are the same being that I haven't changed anything other than transmission
they are locked up completely now I tried to push the buttons to get something to change but to no avail. I am not even sure that it is in 4hi or 2hi I do know that it is not in 4lo because that is the only one I get a change in you can tell it gears down by the sound/feel when you have in neutral and push button. the 4hi button and 4lo button does light up when pushed but the 2hi doesn't.

OK I got it dug out and started it up the buttons do light up in each 2hi 4hi 4lo. However when in 4hi or 4lo and put it in drive you can hear what I think is the transfer case turning but the front drive shaft is stuck I got all 4 wheels off the ground the rear wheels spin by hand as well as the rear drive shaft but the 2 front wheels will not move nor does the drive shaft what should I look at for this problem front diff. or axles or? Now as far as the hose goes it is attached to the transfer case comes out of TC about a foot or two then it Y's one end has a screw in it the other end is open but doesn't look long enough to reach actuator could there be a connection for the hose that is attached to actuator?
again Thanks for the help
