..finally, an outside, the gasket and some yuck that came out of one of the antifreeze ports. (This is the passenger side head.)
There is some very solid looking junk that came out of there. Can Dexcool and regular antifreeze do this?
The stuff is solid, but will crumble, but looks very smooth. I was worried at first there might be a liner in those antifreeze ports but that didn't make any sense and I've never heard about that nor seen anything in my manuals about this. Still, that has got to suck for my engine. I am going to do an insanely thorough flush.
Also, when I removed the first two bolts from the bottom side of the head (bolts on the engine block, not inside the head) antifreeze came out. Apparently the bolt holes go through those antifreeze channels.
Anyone know how common it is for these cast iron heads to warp or crack?
So, it's cleaning time, checking for warpage and looking for cracks.
I posted pics in case any experts would like to share their observations.

So, the Blazer is running again. Here's the long story short.
Both cylinder heads were cracked. Did some digging and found two re manufactured and pressure tested heads on eBay for about $300, including shipping. Put those back in and practically rebuilt the car from the block up. Learned how to TDC and align the distributor. Got that all sorted out and bang- she said runs well. Really well. Replaced a problem idler arm and did a little body work on a rusted spot by the wheel well.
Car is doing great! Really happy I didn't give up on her.
