Default Window Regulator or Motor?

The drivers side window in my 2002 is stuck in the down position; how can I tell if I need a motor or a regulator?

There is power at the plug for up and down.

if it was the regulator you would still hear the motor trying to move the window, its more than likely the lift motor

Once you have the motor out of the regulator you can re-connect the harness and work the up/down swithch and watch gear at the end of the motor. If the gear moves I would then hold the gear in my hand to put a load on it and see if the gear can be driven under load. Sometimes the plastic gears inside the motor housing get stripped. You can not repair the gear drive itself since parts are not availible. I have taken motors apart just to see what was broken. I even transfered a gear housing from a driver side motor because the junkyard sold my co-worker the passenger side when he needed the driver side motor. More times than not the motor will go bad and not the regulator with that said I did have a regulator on a Toyota Tercel go bad with manual windows.

Fabulous. Thanks for the help.

Oh, wait. Not fabulous...

Has anyone put up a how to thread for replacing this (with pics)? I have found descriptions, but I am more of a picture sort of guy when it comes to things like this.
