Once the blue wire is routed under the dash, all you need is a good ignition power source, ground, and the tap off the brake switch.

As far as the brake switch goes, tap off of the white wire at the brake switch.
Thanks! This is a relief, although I was really hoping for a nice turn-key installation...hook up four wires that were waiting for me under the dash and done! Meh, just a little more work to do, at least I know how to proceed now.

Yeah, it's nice to have the wiring there. My Bravada and Rainier both had the wiring. For my Tahoe, it had the wiring, but I went for the pre-terminated harness that plugged into the lower junction box under the dash that I picked up for $9.

I did some snooping around, and both Z82 and UY7 are the same RPO codes for the 96-97 as the 98+.

My 98+ vs. 96-97 was a preface to the 2 wire front comment that followed and how it pertained to the 98+. As just determined, this is different than the 96-97 since they have the blue wire for the brake controller under the hood which is different from the 98+.

Finally got a chance to finish this install up. The hardest part was fishing everything through the flywall...I finally popped the grommet behind the brake pedal, cut a slit through it and worked the three 10 gauge wires through, using a metal strip from a wiper blade as a fish. It's damn tight under there, my shoulders are aching and my hands are all scratched up! I used a scotch-lock to tap the brake switch wire, the positive lines are run right to the junction block with 20 amp fuses inline and the ground wire is connected to a large bolt in the engine compartment. The brake controller is mounted within easy reach of my right hand, and everything is wired up & tested...pretty clean install, I'm happy to say.

I am having a similar problem. I am trying to locate the brake light wire, to tap into, without having to remove switch, which is hidden up in the bowels of the dash somewhere. I have a Tekonsha Prodigy and instructiion s say to connect red wire to 'cold side' of brake light switch. Where exactly is this wire, and what color is it? I have 04 Blazer without the 8 wire harness for trailer lights. Thanks so much for all the help.

would this white wire apply to 04 blazer also? having problems locating the brake switch wire, without having to remove switch. thanks.

There is a thick bundle of wires above the brake pedal, with a big rectangular connector...the white wire at one corner of the connector is the one you need. I'd test it first though, to make sure it's the same on your 04.

Although this page is specifically for a 2000, I found it helpful with my 1997 even though some of the info is different.
