Worn Flywheel?

I've been having trouble starting my '99 blazer. It seems like there are worn spots or broken teeth on the flywheel. Is this a common problem? I assume this repair will cost a pretty penny. Anyone had this happen?

I haven't seen a lot of people mention problems with it here so I don't think it's too common. How did you come to the conclusion it's the flywheel and not the starter bendix? Do you have to rock the car in gear or manually turn the engine to get it started?

I guess (hope) it could just be that. I hear these starters are a pain to get to.
