97 tape to ?? cd radio swap
Hillbilly or anybody....can you help me with my radio hookup? As you can see below, the connectors are different on the old and new radio. My 97 GMC Jimmy had a tape player (shown below). The connectors were the normal rear and front speakers and the power connector. The power connector on the new radio looks to be different.
Edit: More info.
Old radio (tape) Model: 16194965, Delco 89BHHA
New radio (cd) Model: 16211095, Delco 89BMWB

Both of those radios ONLY fit 94-97 s10 and 95-97 Blazer/Jimmy etc...due to the faceplates.....Those connectorsshould beIdentical...just the CD player has an additional connector cavity to add a remote mounted cassette player.(you can just disregard it)My 1997 Blazer has the same CD player in it...that should plug right in...it may be locked..if so holler at me and I'll get it unlocked for ya.
Ok, I got the stereo installed (plugged in just like you said it would). I had to splice in additional wire length forthe power plug (too short). I just soldered and shrink wrapped the extensions. Unfortunately, the rear speakers still do not work. I know for a fact this stereo works as it went through GM testing procedures at my buddies shop. I’m thinking the speakers are bad or the wires are bad.
When I first hooked up the stereo without mounting in the dash, I heard the right rear ever so faintly. Certainly not at the level of the front. I moved the fader back to the rear and no gain in volume.
This is exactly why I replaced the deck (ok, I wanted a CD player too). Any thoughts on my problem about the rear speakers?

I had the exact same problem with my 1997 Blazer, both of my rear speakers were open (blown as most call it) Now is a good time to upgrade to some nice infinitys or something....What do you think Hillbilly? They are 6.5 " speakers if it's a 4-door, and 6x9's if it's a 2-door. With this problem I'd bet your's is probably a 4-door though right?
My guess is that they are blown, the surround is probably seperating from the basket and cone. You have lots of options if you want to upgrade. Infact, i have a set of pioneer 6.5's layin around that hav barely even been used (that is if its a 4 door). If you want some options on speakers to replace them, post up and ill give you a list with model numbers (include price range also)
ya, 4 door it is. HB, sure give me some options and prices.......i don't need to have the best, just some good ones so I can do the travolta[sm=yeahsmile.gif]
oh ya, i forgot..........yeeeeehaaawwwwwwwwwwww [sm=icon_rofl.gif]

Pioneer 6.5s are nice bang for the buck, Alpine Type R 6.5's, Polk,. all of these can be found on www.woofersetc.com
