Default 98+ stock CD player work in a 96 Blazer?

Hello all,

I searched (search term Radio) for an answer but wasn't able to find anything in regards to my question:

Will a stock CD player from a 1998 and on Blazer work in a 1996 Blazer? Reason being as my stock CD player does not play burnt CD's and was hoping I could swap in a CD player from a newer Blazer. Hoping that the plugs are the same....

I'm guessing it will even if it isn't a direct plug+play... anything can be wired to work but I thought I'd confirm here in case there's anything I'm missing before I go ahead and purchase one.

Not interested in going aftermarket as I don't want to worry about theft. Just last week 2 cars were broken into in my work parking lot

2nd part question: What years of stock CD players will play burnt CDs? I guessed 1998 as that seems the year everything was upgraded a bit for the better.

Thanks for any advice!

Yep, I checked in my car's OEM CD player and it worked. I also just checked with a friend of mine who had a '96 Blazer and later on a '99 Blazer and he said both recognized burnt CDs so I think it's just something funky going on with mine.

I would still be interested if a CD player from a 1998, 1999, 2000, etc... will plug into a 1996 plug...

It could be the CD brand. My stock unit (in a '99) will only play certain CD brands. Like it will play the first 2 songs of a Maxwell but then stop and won't play super cheap ones period.

As for the radio I'm gonna guess that its not a direct plug in as alot changed in the electic system between those years. I could be wrong though.

The plugs are going to be the same, but the mounting brackets on those two years are totally different. the 96 has the mounting tabs on top of the radio, whereas the 98 has the ears on each side. But if you want to go ahead and try, just make sure the 98 model doesn't have any kind of premium sound, like bose unless your 96 has it also.

It may have to do with the CD type as mentioned above. I know some players don't like CD-R+ CD's and will only take CD-R- CD's. I had a laptop once that would only burn R- and not R+. Seems funny, but have you tried using other CD's?
