shouldnt the amp i get be the same manufacturer as the sub?

nope, not at all....you need to be sure the amp will be stable at the ohm load your running your subs and be sure your not over powering them

what type of amp should i get? I have a 15 inch L7 kicker sub i do not want to spend over 400$ and i want it to supply around 1000 watts

MTX makes nice amps that power Kicker subs very nice.

Thats overkill IMHO... the zx1000.1 will put down ~1200w rms usually. Check out the cadence 1000w too... For 1 L7 that should be plenty!

you kids and your square subs. . Im not sure why people are recommending amps to you without knowing your voice coil configuation first. Thats a bit important to know before spitting out ideas.

nope, not at all....you need to be sure the amp will be stable at the ohm load your running your subs and be sure your not over powering them
I think underpowering is a little more dangerous...thats when people try to compensate
