I have 4 gauge wires that used to be hooked to a hifonics 600rms amp but i sold that a while ago and now am borrowing my buddys little magnum amp well i hooked it up and immediatly blew the fuse, i was wondering if the wires were producing too much current or whats the deal thanks

 

first thing to look for is make sure you have the positive wire in the positive terminal on the amp. Same for the ground. Next, make sure there arent any stragling wire strands hoping from one terminal to the other on the amp.

 

Yea-probably too small of an amp. I'm no stereo expert, that's just my general electrical knowledge speaking.

 

ok thanks, tommrow im gonna grab a fuse and unplug everything put in the fuse and try to hook it back up if it does it again your migh mech its probably just to small an amp

 

size of the amp has nothing to do why its blowing fuses. The speaker does not demand a certain ampount of power. it only accepts what is given to it.

 

Could the amp itself be getting too much power? That's what I meant-again though. I'm still learning stereo's myself.

 

not at all. it only uses what it needs. if it requires more than the battery/alternator can supply, that will dmage the battery long before the amp - unless extremely severe.

 

yea i tried it again today no luck,i blew 3 20amp fuses, its whenever the 12v battery cable(thick one) touches the amp and recieves current it blows immediatly? anyone know?

 

and its not the amp becuase it did the same when i hooked up another amp i had lying around, just blows it when it it touches it

 

its possible both amps could be bad....it could be grounding out somewhere, the power supply on the amp could be shot. any number of things. are you fused under the hood?
