Default Amp to sub wire size?

Purchased that box with 2 12" fosgate 250 rms subs and 1200 watt amp. The amp is matted to the top of the box and had 18 awg running to the subs. Seemed small and the 4gauge amp wiring kit i Purchased had 12 awg for the speaker wire and i switched it out. Subs sound much better. Is 12 good enough?

As a general rule, unless you're running several kilowatts of power at low ohm loads then 12 gauge will be adequate.

you really dont need to use anything larger than the size wire of your tinsel leads. I usually use 14ga for low powered subs.
