For people that park outside and not in the garage, it might be wise to wire your Homelink to a switched 12+ so if your truck is broken in to, they can't open the garage door.

I dont know if the amt of ram in the PCM would have anything to do with it.. I would suspect it was more like programming language than data storage.. The display I got off ebay was just listed as '98 - '04 Bravada Overhead Console. My truck is an '02, so it fell inside those years. I dont know if programming / data config changes happened after '96.. I kinda suspect it would have as body styling changed after '96, so it might go that other things were changed also... The two displays you have.. you know one of them is a '97.. do you know what year the other one is from? I would bet displays off older models ('96 and earlier) would be more likely to work than later years..

That is a very, very, good idea!

the 2nd one was from a 97 as well. Guess I will start keeping an eye out for a 96.

Thanks.

Was the DIC available in 1996? I'm not seeing it in the options list.

It has been determined that 1995 and earlier did not come with a DIC.

However...I have to wonder if a chip could be burned to make one work...I know some Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme guys have made their own chips to make a DIC from a 1989-91 Cutlass work in their 1994s.

To add this, if some people dont already know, I just picked up a complete overhead console with the complete wiring harness that runs down the piller and behind were the fuse panel is, it is really hard to get too, if you take out the speaker on top the dash you can kind of get to it easier. I say this cause my 99 didnt have a overhead at all and I was hoping the wiring would plug right in and work and it did. So for a lot of you that dont/are scared to wire stuff you dont need too. this one only had comp/temp but I am going back to get mpg one and just run that single wire to data. hop this helps some.

Another small update on this topic... I have a 96 LS Blazer that had no console and am installing a long overhead console. These trucks(95-97) are also prewired for the factory 95-97 consoles, but the wires only go to a plug behind the fuse block. from there the harness changes to the 4 wire for just dome lights, or 9 wire to accommodate the console. the few vehicles ive looked at all have the same setup.
I'm sorry if this is common knowledge, but I've been searching for quite some time and couldn't find this info anywhere.
My plug under the dash:
