Clarification
Hey all,
I am looking at getting a 15" Kicker L7 2-Ohm Dual Voice Coil subwoofer. Which means I would either get a 1 or 4 ohm load if I understand everything correctly. The amp I am looking at (Kicker ZX1000.1) is rated at 2-Ohms. I went to kicker's site and opened up the manual for the amp and it reads as follows:

These ZX amplifiers are capable of operating into a minimum impedance of 2 ohms. If you are using multiple voice coils, the net impedance of the voice coils must be equal to or greater than 2 ohms.

So does anyone know what they mean by net impedance? Would that mean that because it is a 2-Ohm DVC L7 that the net ohm is 2?

no, it is saying the load to the amp cannot be below 2 ohms. YOu would need to get dual 4 ohm vc/s or dual 1 ohm vc's to get the 2 ohm (talking about a single sub setup)

Hillbilly is right. with a dual 4 ohm you can get a net impedance of 2 or 8 ohms. and with the sub you are looking at, you were initially right. a dual 2 ohm is either a 1 or a 4 ohm load. so obviously 1 is below 2 so that wouldn't work. and again with what hillbilly said, thats in a single sub setup. if you wanted two woofers then you could get the woofers you are looking at. just wire them both up in series and bridge or parallel them on the amp.

I dont have enough room for 2 subs lol. I want to keep some of my trunk space darnit! I guess I will just have to change amps because I would rather run the 1 ohm than the 4.
I was just confused on what it meant by net, relating it in my mind to net pay and gross pay you know? Anyways, thanks for the info!

then just get the dual 4 ohm vc. problem solved. no need for another sub.

Exactly what i was thinkin. One dual 4 ohm will get you a two ohm load. which is still plenty low enough

I knew there was a reason why I typed out loud hehe.
I do have a question though, if I went with the 1 ohm load and different amp that amp would have a built in fan. In the back of the blazer, during the summer in Ohio would I need to look into a way to cool the amp if it didn't have a fan?

Eh, i guess it wouldn't be a bad idea, but not really a huge deal unless you notice a problem. My suggestion would be to go to the forum where hillbilly posted about setting your amplifiers gain with a dmm or here so you don't run your amp to hot or send clipped signals to your subs.

they are right about the ohms. but from my own experience run a dual 4-ohm sub and dont run kicker amp. get a fosgate or something with true watts. kicker subs are great but their amps can't push them to full potintial
