First off id like to say, ive read the sticky, and i understand power wire...but im talking about speaker wire here.
Now im planning on mounting my amps inside a custom center console im building, and venting them at the rear passengers feat...pulling in at the front...running speaker wire down the mioddle to subs mounted just behind the rear seat (my seat is further back then normal)...my question is, what gauge speaker wire would i use to run 1000 watts (per sub) rms to each speaker at lengths of up to 8 ft or so?
is it better to run amps near the sub? or does it not matter?is it safe to run that much power that long of a distance?

14ga is all you need. the distance to your amp is fine.

For most subs i never run anything less then 12 ga, and for biger systems 8 to 0 gauge.

lol they actually make 0 gauge speaker wire?
i think im going with 12 gauge, since i had extra from wiring up my speaker amp...but i just wanted to make sure that was enough..

12ga is overkill. do the math.

The bigger the better always when it comes to any wiring

I know of a few street competitors who have went from 8 ga speaker wiring up to 0 ga and have gained 0.2 dB!!! This means the current transfer of 8ga was not sufficent. These are big power systems though. ITs my personal opinion not to use less then 12 ga on subs.

for the typical everyday setup (which 99% of the people have) you dont need any wire larger than the speakers tinsel leads you are connecting the wire to.

Well im not sure what your average system is...but i plan on purchasing 2 FI q's and either a another planet audio 1350.1 big bang (one each sub) or a Planet audio RXD-2400... so its DEF gonna be 1000 true watts rms thru each speaker wire.
And on that note, i think the limit for the speaker inputs are prollbably around 8 gauge (from eyeing it)
