Smile First Sub Installation

I plan on getting two 12" Kicker's (CVR122), using an amp I have Rockford Punch 400-4. It's my first install going into my first car, 97' 4-door blazer. Any tips on what size and type of enclosure I should make? I've made plenty of enclosures before but only for other people so I just followed their specifications. If anyone could help me with some ideas that'd be great. I'd like to get one on each side so I still have trunk space, and under the pull cover so I can cover them up as needed. Something like this: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y11...ket_37920_.jpg Would ported or sealed be better for this car? Thanks!

All depends on what your listening to and how you like your bass. Sealed = tight slapping bass. Better for rock but not limited to it. Ported = long heavy bass. Better for rap but again, not limited to it.

Lets us know your listening preferences and I'm sure we can help!

To be honest everything from rap, and techno to rock and metal. There is no specific type of music but I guess as a generality rap and techno. Thanks for the quick response!

Go Ported. It allows for the sub to reach down and extend lower. Sealed just has no character to it really, thats why they use it for SQ(flat response). Port the box to 38-42 Hz for rock 30-34 Hz for Rap or 36 Hz for in between. After building more boxes you'll know what you want to tune to.

I have a ported box and I have the same preferences. Sounds awesome but I have 10s so 12 might make it a little less responsive to the double kick in some rock songs. I believe my box (Pre-fab MTX sledgehammer) is tuned 32-36. Not sure but, it suits my needs (for now lol)

Alright I decided to go ported. I want to make two boxes on the sides like on the picture, any thoughts on size? Recommended size is 1.75cu/ft to 2.25cu/ft.

I do not recommend them facing eachother on the sides. Do subs back/port back design in a common chamber. 4cubes total with a tuning of 35hz should do you nicely

Go with sealed, they will require less box space and I really don't think you will notice much of a difference.

I have 2 12"s sealed 250w each and they hit harder than one 12 on 500w rms ported.

Ported really sounds like **** and it's only for making people notice you down the block.

Put them in a common chamber ported box @ 4 CuFt. That'd really make them shine, the larger the box the more efficient your subs become. Shoot for 56 Sq In of port and you should be great.
