Default How much for cheap/powerful sub and amp?

So, asking around at Circuit City the guys ran me up the "best" price on their 12" L7 Kickers with the best amp and it came to about $1,000, but I've heard Best Buy is good for their prices.
I'm still interested in the dual 12" L7 Kicker, which is expensive enough alone, plus the best amp for it runs about $500-$700, but what's cheaper than the L7, but just as good?
What subs/amps do you guys have? And what do you recommend?
I'll spend the money for a good sound, and when I mean good sound, I want my roof to dance. I just don't wanna go $1,000+

I just put a new $600+ system in, but no subs so it's kinda like going big, and then just giving up.

i wouldnt buy anything at ciruit city or best buy. their prices are WAY too high. the amp i got was listed for $475 at circuitcity and i got it for ~$185 on ebay.
people speak very highly of the Alpine type-R's....

however, this thread might recieve more attention from the audio-pros in the AV section

an admin has to move it...

the best route is to get advice on what would work best and then find the best price. i got my 750w amp and 500w/1000w peak sub for about $300 and im building a box for it. the same setup at CC would have been colse to $700 w/o a box

Alpine Type-R's are a good bang for your puck subwoofer. You can get the 12"s online for around $150.oo...Hifonics has some decent amps for the price point. You can probably get two Type-R 12"s and a Hifonics BXi1606D for around $600.oo. Then you can build your own enclosure for around $50.oo, wiring for about $40.oo, and your set...Also check out Kicker CVR's...

Hype R's will do good in certain enclosures.... You cant just throw them in any box and they'll be extremely loud. They like big ported boxes tuned in the mid 30's from what I've seen. So yea. if you can do that Give em like 1kwatts each and it'll get the **** bass

I'm running one of the Pioneer TS-W310R's that you can find at Walmart for $60. A sealed box I got off ebay for $35 after shipping (can't remember the volume) and an MTX RT-404 Road Thunder Amp that I got off ebay for $50 after shipping. I couldn't be happier with this setup, my one buddy was running over 3000 watts to two 10's and a 12 and he thought mine was better, more punhc, crisper sound. However I think that I would go with the pioneer 10 instead of the 10 just for space reasons. But this sounds very good to me, and pretty much everyone else that has been in my Blazer (it'll rattle your teeth and hair) Plus there really is not much distortion with it either. The amp is hooked up to rear outs on a low level Kenwood HU, bass set to 0. My speakers are running off the HU (all six, two Pioneer 6x9's and two Pioneer 4x6's and two stockers in the door). I also got a tube of RTV silicone to seal up the box where the sub goes it, which is what, like $5. So that's a total of what, $150 plus installation kit which was a whole $25 at Walmart also.

ya www.onlinecarstereo.com

I think I paid $138+shipping per 12

and they'll sound better than the L7's in a box as mentiond

at least this way you can get some more power......feed em 6-800 watts each.
