Audio/Video Electronics Wired up? If you have some sort of A/V modification let's hear about it here. Discussion of stock electrical problems should be done in the 'Lighting & Electrical' section.

I just brought a subwoofer with speaker and amp with it.

There should actually be lights in there already. I bought an identical prebuilt unit like that from a friend many years ago and there was a little switch inside the terminal on the back of the box that controlled the lights.

To be honest, I never liked having the lights on. They were bright enough that there was a blue glow in the entire cargo area which made it difficult to see out the back window. There were also reflections from the lights and mirrors inside against the glass that got annoying.

cool mod you could do with the lights is run a relay to the positive terminal to your subs (acts as the switch) power source (you should already have that and the ground) and then a wire from the relay to the light. this way your light will come on and off every time your sub hits. Thinking about doing this mod myself.

this is some of the worst advice I have seen in a while. Hooking up any other electronics to the speakers themselves wll most likely damage the speakers. By introducing other electronics to the mix, you are changing the impedance of the speakers which could strain both the speakers and the amp. Great way to start a fire.

I wouldn't worry about it. It has been done many times before.

It is like saying the wiring in your vehicle is a fire hazard and you shouldn't drive it because it might result in a fire.

um negative. It would be like plugging a speaker directly in to a wall outlet. ok, maybe not that drastic, but same concept. There is a right way and a wrong way to wire things. connecting lights directly to speakers is definitely the wrong way.
