the holes in the box are a port they make it louder cuz it makes the air coming out of the box have a freq. but just holes im pretty sure wont do anything, boxs with the holes a specifically built to make a certain freq. so if you would like to drill holes in your box you can but it doesnt do anything special unless it is ported in a certain way

pretty much you just cant make your own ported box by drilling holes in a sealed box it wont sound good

sealed box=sound quality

ported box=loudness

People can be ignorant...

Ported subwoofer enclosure require more than just a hole to breathe. They require precise measurments of volume, length, and area to produce a desirable sound....

Buying a prefabricated prted box is a wastre of money. Most are poorly designed and built and are usually overpriced. Building a ported enclosure to the specs of the vehicle and woofer is the only way to get the best sound out of a ported enclosure...

Over priced, yes... But sometimes they can still sound good... Though, one of these days I'm gonna build one for the reccomended interior volume of my sub, lol.

99% of prefab ported boxs ive seenare tuned way too high, not something I want to spend money on.
