RE: locked out of new stereo
General Information
The THEFTLOCK system is designed in order to discourage theft of the radio. The system uses a secret code in order to disable all radio functions whenever battery power is removed. The THEFTLOCK feature for the radio may be used or ignored. If the feature is ignored, the system plays normally and is not protected by the feature. When THEFTLOCK is activated, the radio displays LOC in order to indicate a locked condition any time battery power is removed. When the battery loses power for any reason, you must unlock the radio with the secret code in order for the radio to operate.
Activating the Theft Deterrent Feature
The following instructions explain how to enter the secret code that is needed in order to activate the THEFTLOCK system.
IMPORTANT: If more than 15 seconds passes between steps, the radio automatically shows the time and you must start over at step 4.
1. Write down any 3-digit or 4-digit number ranging from 000-9999.
2. Turn the ignition to the ACCESSORY or RUN position.
3. Turn the radio off.
4. Press the 1 and 4 buttons together. Hold the buttons down until - shows on the display.
5. Press MN. The display will show 000.
6. Press MN again in order to make the last 2 digits agree with the code.
7. Press HR in order to make the first 1 or 2 digits agree with your code.
8. Press AM-FM after you have confirmed that the code displayed matches the secret code. The display will show REP and you must repeat steps 5-7 in order to confirm the secret code.
9. Press AM-FM and the display will show SED in order to advise that the radio is secure. The indicator near the volume control will begin flashing when the ignition is turned to the OFF position.
Disabling the Theft Deterrent Feature
Use the following procedure in order to disable the theft-deterrent feature.
IMPORTANT: Do not allow more than 15 seconds to pass between steps.
1. Turn the ignition to the ACCESSORY or RUN position.
2. Turn the radio off.
3. Press the 1 and 4 buttons together. Hold them down until SEC displays.
4. Press MN and 000 will display.
5. Press MN again in order to make the last 2 digits agree with the code.
6. Press HR in order to make the first 1 or 2 digits agree with the code.
7. Press AM-FM after you confirm that the code matches the secret code.
The display still shows - indicating that the radio is no longer secure. If the code entered is incorrect, SEC will appear on the display. The radio will remain secured until the correct code is entered.
Unlocking the Theft Deterrent Feature After A Lock-Up
Use the following procedure in order to unlock the theft deterrent feature:
IMPORTANT: Do not allow more than 15 seconds to lapse between steps.
1. Turn the ignition to the ON position. LOC will appear.
2. Press MN and 000 will appear on the display.
3. Press MN again in order to make the last 2 digits agree with the code.
4. Press HR in order to make the first 1 or 2 digits agree with your code.

RE: locked out of new stereo
The HR & MN buttons should be under the tuner ****. And yeah, without the code, you are SOL. If the seller is reasonable, he may exchange the radio with another that is unlocked...

RE: locked out of new stereo
There is a way of retrieving the code. I use to contract GM and Ford radio warranty, and I'm just trying to remember the way its done. There are a few web sites that will find the code for you. Here is the first part of the steps:
1. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC) 2. Press and hold presets buttons 2 & 3 or 1 & 4 for approximately 10seconds. 3. The radio display changes from LOC to a three-digit number. Write this number down. 4. Don’t take long, fifteen seconds max before the next step. 5. Press the AM/FM button 6. The radio display changes to another three-digit number. Write this number to the right of the first one. 7. You now have a six or four-digit number, the first three digits are from STEP 3 and the last three digits are from STEP 5 8 If you have a four digit number, it will show all four digits at the same time. Example 452108110
Note1: You may have two sets of the same number. Example- (233-233).
From here, I'm just trying to remember how those numbers give you the code. You could play around with those a bit, or search the internet for the method. I'll post again if I find it.
I forgot to mention: If you try too many times with an incorrect code it will say INOP. Then you have to leave the radio on (key in ACC or IGN position) for an hour.
If all else fails, a GM dealer can unlock it with a Tech2 programmer. If you're lucky they might not even charge you for something like that.

RE: locked out of new stereo
I remember something to that effect as well, but couldn't remember the proper steps.
Here is what I dug up through a Google Search:
Now the dealer code referenced in step 3 might not work any more...
Here is what I dug up through a Google Search:
GM DELCO THEFTLOCK RADIO UNLOCK CODE:
1. Press and hold presets 2 and 3 for about 5 to 10 seconds until you
get 3 digits on your display. This is the first 3 of 6 digits you will
need, so write 'em down.
2. After doing step one and writing down the code, immediately press
the
AM/FM button to get the last 3 of the 6 numbers you'll need, and write
'em down. (if you wait too long between steps 1 and 2 and the LOC code
displays again, just start over).
3. Call this number, it's a prerecorded message, so don't worry about
having to talk to anyone...1-800-537-5140. The voice will ask if
you're
calling for Chevy, Pontiac, Cadillac, etc... When you here him tell
you
to press "2" for Pontiac, press 206010 and hit the # key. He'll ask
you
for the 6 digit code that you've written down. Enter that and press
the
* key. He will then give you a code, and the option to get additional
4
digit codes, but one should be sufficient.
4. Follow the normal procedure in your owners manual for unlocking the
radio with your new code...press the hour set button on your radio
until
you get the first two numbers of the code, then press the minute set
button until you've entered the last two numbers. Immediately press
the
AM/FM button once the correct code is entered and the code SEC or
"secured" will be displayed on the display screen. Now, just turn the
radio on, and your ready to roll.
There is an additional step you can take to remove all codes from the
radio and start from scratch by entering your own personalized 4 digit
code so that it won't get you in a pickle again! Just repeat step 4
and
you should get a display screen that reads ---. This means the code is
out, and you can now program your own code. Of course, once you
receive
the 4 digit code from the GM recorded message, just keep it in a safe
place, because you can use that same code again and again should you
have any more problems with it in the future. Good luck, and yes, it
does work.
