Default MP3 input for OEM non-aux CD deck, `00 Blazer?

Okay, I looked around and didn't see anything on this one. I have a 2000 Blazer, with a single CD and non-aux input deck (AC Delco). I don't plan on sinking much money into the audio on my baby since there's other things that could go to, and I would love to be able to just solder in a 3.5mm jack in place and plug my iPod into the face.
Here's the question: does the lack of aux mean I'm outta luck? I'm looking to avoid buying anything (i.e., converters, new decks, etc.) and just splicing into the existing wiring. I don't mind losing the CD feature if that's what I have to hack into. Is this even possible?

See the link below. They will add a jack to your front face and you will not lose your cd player. $55 + $15 S&H. No worries about hacking your radio.

Okay, found my radio here: http://factoryradioservice.com/chevr...nput-p-92.html

Thanks for the link! I'm in Hawaii, so I will try to see if someone can do this locally for the same price... but otherwise, this is exactly the setup I'm after! Has anyone done this on their own, by the way?

Mr. VLS: Thanks! The positive feedback there is reassuring, I was a bit hesitant to ship off my radio to them at first...

Default Replacing the Tape Deck with an Audio Jack

The new faceplates that were recommended look great, but before I check into one of those, I was wondering about converting the existing tape deck that is down on the floor to an MP3 input.
Here's the unit I'm talking about:

Does anyone know if your can do use that to hook up a place to plug in my mp3 player?

Thanks,
Ron

Ron, go to the link mr.vls posted in post #2, scroll down 1/2 a screen and this is what it says.............

If you prefer, we can modify this model to have an External AUX Jack to be mounted to any part of your console (Style No. CH002B). This modification will not change your radio's faceplate, but you will need to mount the AUX jack. This model's external AUX modification will be $55 + $15 Shipping and Handling in the US.

you're on the same wave length as i am, but i plan on doing the rear AV jacks on the factory deck as well.

if you go ahead with this, be sure to let us know. it's on my list o fthings to do, just not @ the top right now.

I dug around a bit more in this forum and found another thread (https://blazerforum.com/forum/showth...ight=mp3+input) that had a fairly simple modification (and a lot cheaper) using the tape deck. Since I had already purchased one of those lame cassette adapters (which you end up needing to fool the main deck into turning on the auxiliary) I gave it a go and it worked great. Not as slick as having a jack actually mounted, but it's going to work nice for me. I purchased a griffin charger from Amazon for $9 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EKEQNM) that will work nicely to hold my ipod nano and then I just ran the new plug out under the console on the driver's side and it will plug nicely into this charger. So I ended up doing the whole thing without much change out of pocket.

The sound is great, so I'm a happy camper.

Next up is fixing my sagging driver's door (needs a new hinge pin and maybe some jbweld to fix the dreaded egg shaped hole) - but it's raining, so guess that will have to go for another day!

I found this while digging around online: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/stereo...t-adapter.html

Long story short, they're using the same radio as mine, but splicing into the CD wires and using this Radio Shack 1/8" jack: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2103451

If done correctly, you run a CD as usual, but once you plug your iPod or MP3 player into it, it senses the new signal and plays from that instead of the CD player. If it goes well, I'll post pics under a new thread. Seems like a good idea for those willing to solder a few wires and spend no more than an hour + $10 on the mod...
