So I just bought a new deck for the truck. Just a cheap Dual one from Walmart...I really only want it for the AUX input. I bought the wiring harness that was supposed to be for my truck, but for some reason it doesn't fit at all. I was thinking it must be related to the stock Bose sound system I have in the truck. Anyway, I got the wiring diagram from SI (GM service info) and figured I could skip using the wiring harness and just wire it up myself.
I have power running to the deck, but no sound what so ever coming out. I've tried it on the radio, with a CD, AUX, nothing. Does it have something to do with the Bose amp? do I have to bypass the amp? If so, where is it located?

Here is the wiring info from SI...it doesn't make any sense to me what some of them are (they're the w/ amp ones). If I didn't have that amp it's nice and simple and there is a + and - one, which would make it easy to wire up.

I kind of shot myself in the foot on this one. I cut the old connector off, so the only way to get my sound back now is to rewire the connector (which will be a pain) or figure out how to wire this new deck. Any help would be appreciated.

 

that is because with the bose system there is an amp somewhere and your speaker wires are connected to the amp not the unit. my friends bmw had an amp in it and we had to take it out and replace it with an aftermarket one... I guess what you could do is take out the amp and just splice the wires together that goes in and out of the bose amp. I would probably recomend getting a little 4 channel amp because putting that head unit in your downgrading your system. I haven't ever dealt with the bose system but I know the bmw system is a big pita

 

Your bose amp wont turn on to put out any sound until you hook the 12 volt input"remote wire" back up. The wire your looking for is usually blue or blue with a white stripe. No big deal don't go hacking your factory amp out.

 

You're talking about the blue wire coming from the deck plug? If so, I know what one you're talking about. Where would I connect that to on the factory wire harness?

 

well I know the blue wire on my set up goes straight to the amp. you'll have to figure out what color wire that is equivalent to the bose system. that wire pretty much just tells the amp to turn on when the unit is on. right now your unit thinks it is powering the speakers but those wires are going to your amp which would work but your amp doesn't know when to power on because of the blue wire. I'm sure you can find the bose wiring guide somewhere...

 

You could run the bose amp's remote turn on" the blue wire" To the Blue with a white stripe wire on the back of your aftermarker radio, That way when the keys on the amps on & when the key turns off the amps off.

 

So now I just have to track down which wire in the stock wiring harness powers my amp. That's pretty much what I was thinking from the beginning anyway. I'll take another look at SI and see if I can figure out which wire it is.

 

The amp is underneath your center console. If you open up the console there is the black tray to put stuff in. You need to take out the tray there are 2 screws holding it down at the front of the trayright where the handle snaps in at. Remove those and the tray and you will see an unmarked silver box underneath ITS YOUR AMP there is an extra plug hanging off to hook up more speakers ITS NOT AN RCA PLUG but that is what it is for. I hooked up a small sub to it ITS NOT A VERY POWERFULL AMP it would be better to replace it with an aftermarket amp if you want BIG sound. My sub is only 8 inches and is hidden under rear seat (vibrates seat a little lol) its not the best but its what I wanted.

 

Your profile shows a 96 Tahoe.

If you have a 96 full size Tahoe, the wire from the factory radio that turns the Bose amp on is pink. And the amp is under the left side of dash. (according to Mitchell diagrams)

My diagrams don't show a Bose option on the 96 S10 Blazer.

But your wire colors above list the S10 Blazer wiring colors. Dark Green #8 is the amp turn on wire for those.
And yes, the amp for the Blazers in in the center console, under the storage tray or CD Changer if you have that option.

 

dont hard wire your aftermarket head unit. There is a proper wiring harness for your truck. do it right the first time
