Default New deck install? Simple answers!

Hellooo everybody

I'm brand new here..driving a 2005 Blazer. I have a nice deck I bought a few years back but it's still installed in my VW Jetta. I want to put it in my Blazer but some guy told me I need to get a special kit/chassis or something that costs $150. He said all Chevys from 2000-present need them.[:@]
Can anybody explain this to me IN SIMPLE TERMS?? I'm not completely clueless but I have ZERO experience in car stereos.
I can check my oil and change my tire..lol..that's about it.

Any help would be SO SO SO appreciated! Thank you!!

I know in my old sunfire, i had to relocate the factory deck with special harnesses and such. But i don't know about the blazers or Jimmies, havent done mine yet. But maybe he's talking about something like that.

you do not need that on our blazers. I promise you.

YOu need three parts, and these are Metra (brand name) install parts

99-2003
70-2003
40GM-10

that is all. was it someone at BB who told you this???

what the guy is probably talking about is what they call a GMRC, probably the GMRC 04. Its a Data II Bus Module. Its retains the factory settings of the stock HU. Because GM in all its greatness decided to wire their airbags, door dingers, overhead lights, turn signals and stuff like that into your stock head unit. to make sure that stuff still works you need this GMRC 04 piece. but $150 is a little much, I sell them at my store for about $80 to $90.

every documentation that I have state that the harness needed for this truck is 70-2003. you do not need that harness. Even if you have the RDS radio. the Databus did not apply to s-series trucks

It was a guy at Future Shop. I've had bad experiences with FS before though..they try to add on everything they can to make an extra buck. So if an amateur like me was wanting to get somebody to do all this for me, what exactly would be involved? A GMRC04, the three metra parts and a good installer? And would anybody know how much that should cost me? I don't want to get ripped off..especially if I sound like I'm a bit clueless..

you do not need the GMRC04,. the install is very simple. drop the drivers side knee bolster (2 7mm bolts) 1 7mm bolt above colume. unplug the light harnesses and such. pull the dash piece off. 2 7mm bolts hold the radio in. very simple.

To clarify, you only need the three metra parts I listed above

the 3 metra parts he listed are (defined)

99-2003, 95-up gm deck install kit
70-2003, 94-up gm wiring harness
40GM-10, antenna adapter

in case you can't find metra parts (cause i've never heard of them in stores) just look for something with similar parts descriptions.

I'm guessing your canadian too, cause I think future shop is a canada store. Don't buy install stuff from the stereo shops, go to walmart, or Canadian tire. They are cheaper there.
