New system ideas

I want more space in the cargo area of my truck, so today I went out and started making a template for one very similar to what a lot of people have done and put it behind the right rear wheel well of my truck. Stupid me didn't pay think first, and got all done with my template only to realize I had two very major problems.

1) The way I set the new box up, I cannot fit my 12" sub.
2) My amp is a bazillion feet long and won't fit on/in this box either.

So I can either leave it alone and keep a system that's ridiculously overkill in my truck... or downsize to something that will fit in the box I want AND sound good without being too much.

Anybody have any suggestions for a good amp/single sub (10") that sounds good in our trucks? I don't want to spend a whole lot of cash either.

Here is what I'm currently working with, even though I doubt any of it will be reused:
(2) 12" Kicker CVR subs
(1) 1200W Power Acoustik amp.

No pics of it in the truck, but here is the box in my old Neon so you get a very rough idea.

And this is the type of box I'm looking to build:

mtx 10's dont sound bad with 450 watts pushed to them in there. now you got me thinking about building one of these boxes. i got the mdf haha

Your amp doesn't have to be attached to the box. In my K5 its underneath the passenger seat. You'll have to run more wiring though... lol

TheRandom1 11-05-2011 08:27 PM

I never thought about that... any pics of how it mounts? I don't even know if it would fit there.

ChevyBlazerChick 11-06-2011 01:39 AM

Back seat is also an option. Mine just sits under the seat... it isn't mounted or anything lol But I'm sure a mount could be fashioned.

My amp is also super small. Its only 75w. Its super cute! But my 2 12s still hit like champs!

TheRandom1 11-06-2011 01:08 AM

Ahhh, yeah. My amp is not small at all. I just looked up the dimensions, holy crap.

Product Dimensions: 23.2 x 13.8 x 4.8 inches

The box I built is only about 13" deep, so nope, no way it'd fit.

ChevyBlazerChick 11-06-2011 01:23 AM

Why are they making amps so friggin huge now. I used to have a 1200 JL Audio Amp it was was just a bit bigger than my 75.

thats it sitting in the footwell of my K5 In fact I think that's the knob to move the seat back and forth in the bottom of the pic.

Here's the dimensions Dimensions: 9.8" L x 9.25" W x 2.36" H

TheRandom1 11-06-2011 01:27 AM

No clue, but I wish they didn't! Also, it appears that nobody makes a pre build box for what I am doing which stinks.

ChevyBlazerChick 11-06-2011 01:38 AM

lol, I'm sure you can find something powerful in a small package. Someone out there has to make them lol.

TheRandom1 11-06-2011 08:36 AM

I considered going without subs and just amping my interior speakers too actually. I don't need window shattering bass, I just like having more than stock speakers can usually handle, haha.

ChevyBlazerChick 11-06-2011 02:04 PM

Yeah that's why I have the 75wx4 Because it puts out enough power to give me the bump that I want. I had the 1200 hooked up to a 15 and a put a big ass crack in my windshield... lol

Blazer_LT 11-06-2011 04:15 PM

the problem with running longer wires from the amp to the sub is that you will get more noise in the system. i dont think there is enough room under the seats in yours anyway. i tried last night to mount my lil 400watt alpine under any seat just to get it out of sight and there was no way to mount it and have the seats fold. and under the fronts. forget that there is enough room for me to slide my lil hand under and thats it haha. you might have more room if you dont have power seats. just this was my experience with it

TheRandom1 11-06-2011 08:57 PM

I have a power drivers seat, manual passenger. The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward just running a small amp for interior speakers and not even dealing with subs anymore.

So, next question. Ignoring subs entirely, can I do a decent amp/speaker setup (interior speakers only) for about 400 bucks if I install it all myself? If so, ideas on what is good?

The way I see it, either you are gonna run a bunch of wire from the Head Unit to the Amp, or from the Amp to the Subs lol.

I don't know a ton about the 2doors but i'd assme you guys have the spot in the back to mount your jack & road side stuff. If so I was able to getta JL 300/4ch which isn't much bigger then BlazerChik's JL.

That is a great spot, I'll have to look into that when I start buying new parts.

I mounted my amp on the outside of the jack area so I'm still able to get into it.

I'd probably go inside the jack area so I can hide it. I'd rather people not see an amp and think I have something worth stealing.

How do I figure out what amp/speakers to get? I already replaced the door speakers, so I'd rather keep them, but I don't see pioneer's that have the same RMS for the rest?

Pioneer - 6-1/2" 2-Way Car Speakers with Composite IMPP Woofer Cones (Pair) - TS-G1644R That's what I already have.30W RMS, 180 peak.

if you wanna find cheap and good speakers hop on ebay. and start misspelling name brands and you can find some smokin deals. people will post them up in a hurry and leave a letter off or jumble the letters in the brand so when people search for them they dont see the ones that are jumbled. noone bids on it so you can bid cheap and get a smokin deal.

TheRandom1 11-07-2011 06:53 PM

Not a bad idea, but I'd prefer new this time.

Anybody?

Irocz327 11-15-2011 02:27 AM

personally I think the type/brand of speaker depends on the person's taste I've heard some $400/pair of speakers that I thought sounded like sh*t. I personally really like a good clear highs & mids so I have all Infinity Referance in the truck w/ a JL amp & am really happy, It sounds really clear to me. but that's IMO.
