Default question about the fuse for my amp

i have a kicker 1000 watt amp. It has a 100a fuse rating. I am buying and amp instalation kit. I need to know what size fuse i should get. Also, would it be better to get a bigger fuse?

the fuse for your wire is not to protect the amp, it is for the wire itself. The fuse for the wire is based off the power draw and the wire length. This sticky should help some. https://blazerforum.com/m_40326/tm.htm

what size wire are you using? What is the length of the wire? and how much amperage will be drawn over that run?

I'd say go about125 amps.. you want to protect the amp.. thesecondary fuse (the oneon the amp)can do that.. the main fuse is to protect the circutry... thats how i see it.. and 125 will protect against shorts along the length while providing ample draw ability for the amp.

You want it to be bigger, but not soo big it will not break inthe event of a short... That's howI have always used as a rule of thumb... If you are never going to drawenough power to destroy one you never be able to destroy them both,

125 amps iss good starter number..to cover your ****.. if you feel thats too big go smaller.. but never go smaller than what your amp "could" draw at max load.

I think in my volvo i have a 110 amp fuse on my main wire and a 80-100 amp fuse on my amp..I should go re-look.
