Default Radio Replacement Questions

alright i have a 2000 chevy s10 blazer zr2 and im looking to replace the stock radio with a gps-radio thats a touch screen. i was wondering if there were any specific things i have to do to remove the stock radio because im pretty sure the security system runs through the radio and i dont want to disable the vehicle. how would i go about removing the radio and replacing it? also when i was looking at radios i noticed they all said either 1 din or 2 din. which option would fit in my blazer.

thank you

I don't think it would disable your blazer.. i put a aftermarket cd player in my girl friends 01 and it didnt mess anything up.. a 1 din would fit with a dash kit.. and i don't think they make a dash kit to fit a double din in it. I did make custom brackets for a double din with the the same dash as a 97 blazer 4x4 to fit a double di. but if you want a easy instal i would go with a 1 din flip out navigation like pioneer d3..just my opinion though

You can run a Double din radio but it would require a new dash bezel from like a Bravada. through the ending years of the truck they had a double din. You will also have to fab up a dash kit for the double din to fit. I've heard rumor there is a Scoshe kit that is direct bolt on but have not confirmed it myself. You should be fine simply removing the factory radio. The problems that arise from swaping the radio's are Door Chime goes away and your RPM gauge doesnt work. Thats a problem with RDS radios. It's a hit and miss cutting the data cable for the RDS. In my brothers S10 he had said problems. In my blazer I had no trouble at all.

Here's a crappy cell pic of my dash/headunit in:

like i said lol if you want the easiest fastest install get a single din with a dash kit.. i got a cd player on eBay that came with the dash kit and the wiring harness for no extra charge and also free shipping.. or you can drive to your nearest walmart and get the dash kit.
