Recommend an amp (2 Kicker Compvr 12" 2-ohm)
Was wondering what would be my best options amp wise for these subs I just bought:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...l/-/B000XPV7PO
I looked at a Kenwood KAC-8104D 1000-Watt Max Power Class D Mono Power Amplifier and a Kicker ZX7501 750-Watt Class D Mono. Seems like I can get that Kenwood for cheaper with more power.

It looks like that Kenwood amp is 500W RMS. I believe the subs are 400W RMS each. If you use that kenwood amp, you may be underpowering them. I have a 15" CVR (500W RMS) and I run it off of a zx750.1
I got my zx750 (new) for $180 on ebay.

On the website it shows this 12" CompVR subwoofers * 2-ohm total impedance * power handling: 50-800 watts RMS (1,600 watts peak power). Would the kenwood amp work fine with that wattage?
the first you may want to look at here is a Autotek A/B class @ 1000 rms
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=19713
then a Planet Audio D_Class @ 900 rms
now, were-as i dont know how hard you are on you system - im brutal on mine so i would use the D-class. But you COULD get away with the a/b class if you wanted.
I have witnessed both amp series in action and will tell you they are both high quality amps that deliver what they promise. but a 900 rms d-class for $200 is a deal and would fully push those kickers. that is my recommendation

in short - NO!!!! im going to try and break this down just a lil bit so bear with me.
you have a set of speakers that want 400 rms each. and each speaker is a dual 4 ohm voice coil. they have it set up for 2 ohm each side. when you put those together you can have 1 or 4 ohm setup - for you we will use 1 ohm. the kenwood doesnt talk about being stable at 1 ohm but 500 rms at 2 ohm. so you are underpowering your speakers and lossing potential sound with that amp. what you need is a good quality 750 - 900 rms amp that is 1 ohm stable. when looking at amps - never pay any attention to the MAX WATTAGE, its the RMS wattage that counts for anything.
speaker tech specs were found here:

Does that kinda explain why none of us will suggest the Kenwood?
its not the kenwood brand, its the power you need vs the power it has.

boomtruck, I was under the impression that the Kicker pacakges (box+subs) had the drivers wired together so it was a single channel. I thought the 2ohm rating was the nominal rating for both subs.

I could be mistaken though, they might have left it up to the end-user to decide which config they wanted.

it might be possible. im not sure i guess. i looked up the speaker it says it comes with and it said they were dual 4 ohm. but the box says its overall 2 ohm. so i really dont know. i would say wait till the box comes and see what it is i guess.
Went to a few different places asking questions for what kind of amplifier would be best, first place told me to get this alpine mono amp that they sold for $200 (found it for cheaper online). They wanted to charge some expensive installation fees and I didn't know much about the shop, they are fairly new. I ended up going to best buy asking someone there, they were under the impression it was 1600 watts and tried suggesting me that Kenwood Kac 8104d I showed them a print out from crutchfield.com with the specs. They also told me if I wanted to get installed at bestbuy I would have to buy their fossgate wiring kit ($109.00)

I ended up calling crutchfield and they gave me some pretty good suggestions as far as amps (800w and below Class D Mono 1 Channel amps).
Looked at this Alpine: Alpine - 500W Class D Mono MOSFET Amplifier with Adjustable Crossover
Also looking at this kenwood now:http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218063832403
Kenwood - 600W Class D Mono Amplifier with Variable Crossover
Or this Pioneer: PIONEER GM-D7400M (GMD7400M) Not sure if the specifications fit my subs though on this pioneer.

all i can say is that you should find an amp at 700-800 rms at 2 ohm mono block D-class. that would power them as they need and not overpower or blow them. but its your truck, your money, your setup. at least if you use those amps you wont blow them that easy - unless you tune then wrong that is.
